Step by Step: Works from the Permanent Collection
June 8 to August 18, 2002

Step by Step: Works from the Permanent Collection features a selection of historical and contemporary drawings, paintings, prints, installations, sculptures and photo-based works from the Kelowna Art Gallery's permanent collection.

Many of the works selected for this exhibition are connected in one way or another to the landscape. Sometimes the landscape is a traditional and serene one of mountain and lake scenes. Sometimes the artist presents us with a social or cultural landscape or one that comments on the human impact of building upon, extracting from, altering and scaring our surroundings. In all cases the works selected for this exhibition takes the viewer on a journey that holds wonder, memory, pleasure and inspiration.

Many of the works in this exhibition are new acquisitions and the Gallery is very pleased to be able to present them here for the first time. Several works have been in the collection for many years, yet are also being exhibited here for the first time.

Step by Step: Works from the Permanent Collection provides an opportunity for  local visitors to view and get to know a few of the treasures from the Gallery's collection. The exhibition also provides an opportunity for visitors from outside of Kelowna to see and get to know the work of several talented artists of the Okanagan valley and Western Canada.
