The
Kelowna Art Gallery is pleased to present Hybrids. This touring
exhibition brings together for the first time the work of 10 contemporary
artists from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Yukon:
Griffith
Baker (Regina, Saskatchewan)
Lisa Birke (Vancouver, B.C.)
Marianne Corless (Sundre, Alberta)
Twyla Exner (Regina, Saskatchewan)
Fern Helfand (Kelowna, B.C.)
Ingrid Mary Percy (Victoria, B.C.)
Alison Petty (Kamloops, B.C.)
Cara Sawka (Regina, Saskatchewan)
Marc Siegner (Edmonton, Alberta)
Mike Yuhasz (Dawson City, Yukon)
These
10 artists were selected from over 200 submissions to an open call in 2005
by 6 curators from small city art galleries across Western Canada,
including Kelowna Art Gallery curator Linda Sawchyn. The resulting
eclectic exhibition of sculpture, photography, video, painting, mixed
media, printmaking, drawing and installation - produced from both
traditional and non-traditional materials - highlights contemporary
artists across Western Canada and the Yukon addressing 21st century issues
including representations of the human body, the environment and
recycling, genetic engineering, commoditization, marketing and the
media.
Hybrids (a small city art museum co-production) is produced by the
Kelowna Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Swift Current, Estevan Museum
& Art Gallery, Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery, Esplanade Art
Gallery in Medicine Hat and Two Rivers Art Gallery in Prince George, B.C.
