Drawing for Beginners

Build your confidence, learn the basics of drawing, and have fun.
Participants will go through a step-by-step process to developing images
that look 3-dimensional with the use of line, shadows and light. Students

Art and Variety

Play and have fun with art! This class will give you a taste of a variety
of art areas. No skill is necessary, the idea is to play, have fun, and
experience a variety of art techniques. From monoprints to collage to
mixed media and paint, we will experiment and explore art in different
elements each week.

Integrating Calligraphy
with Watercolour

This exciting combination of two art techniques is for all ages and skill
levels. Learn the uncial lettering style, and how to present your favorite
quotations on a creative background. Then learn watercolour techniques
that enhance calligraphy to further empower your creativity! Join us for
this dynamic six-week class that marries watercolour painting and
calligraphy (kalli beauty, graphia writing).

This class has been designed to include students with little watercolour
experience, as well as the student who wishes to explore new techniques.
We will start with daily exercises based on a new principle each week. The
techniques of washes, wet on wet, wet on dry, dry brush, "negative
painting," glazing, etc. will be utilized. We will learn the basics
of colour theory, composition and design.

Something New: Acrylic Painting for Beginners

In this beginner class students will learn the basics of acrylic painting,
while exploring a variety of ways to communicate ideas through painting. A
combination of discussions, demonstrations, and painting will inspire

Flow – Intermediate Watercolour

The Art of Assemblage
Instructors: David and Jorden Doody
Dates: Saturdays, Sept 20 & 27
Time: 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
This two day work shop will guide artists through the processes of
assemblage as an art form. Incorporating all manners of drawing, painting,
and collage into a three dimensional form, these works will bridge the
traditional with the unconventional. With the team guidance of both Jorden
and David Doody, individuals will be encouraged to explore the boundaries
of the picture plane, and the frame, developing themes and platforms for
discovery. The relaxed atmosphere will foster an open forum for the
development of new ideas and relationships.

The Spirituality of Art
Instructors: Jim Kalnin and Lois Huey-Heck

During this workshop art-based spiritual practices will lead to hands-on
activities that help us open up to our creative and spiritual selves.
These will include collage, drawing and painting. This workshop will have
an experiential focus, and no experience is necessary. Jim and Lois live
in Oyama B.C. and are co-authors of The Spirituality of Art (Wood Lake
Books/Northstone, 2006).

The Art of Bookmaking

Delight in papers of beautiful colors and textures and transform sensuous
papers into handmade books. During this weekend workshop you will make
several unique styles and sizes of books, with different binding
techniques - accordion fold style, simple sewn and post-bound included.
These are one-of-a-kind books you will want to keep and fill with writing,
artwork, or photographs.

Lecture Series
Conversations on
Contemporary Art
Dates: Mondays, November 3 – December 1
Time: 7:00 – 9:00 pm
Join us for this five-part lecture series on contemporary art. These
illustrated introductory lectures will feature a new topic each week, and
discussions will be led by distinguished experts and artists from the
University of British Columbia Okanagan department of creative studies.
Through lively discussion, participants will learn about the significance
of contemporary art and its connection to culture and history.
