Beyond
the Frame
An
Exploration of Art & Process
2nd Annual Members' Exhibition
November
17, 2006 – February 24, 2007
This
year’s members’ exhibition is inspired by one of Kelowna Art
Gallery’s premier exhibits, Dawn: Sketches by the Group of Seven.
The
Group of Seven was known for their wide range of artistic styles and their
ability to capture the spirit of the Canadian landscape. First-hand
experience of the wilderness, experimentation with techniques, and
sketching directly from the landscape led to rich and varied bodies of
work that have come to represent quintessential visions of Canada.
The
ability to experiment and understand what inspires you is essential to any
artistic process. With this in mind, the Beyond the Frame exhibition
is an opportunity for members to connect and to enrich their own practice
by sharing their artistic process with fellow participants.
Members
are asked to submit a finished work of art along with an artist statement
and some kind of documentation of their creative process, e.g. a sketch
from a notebook, a color study, a photograph, a poem, a piece of material
picked up in the landscape, etc.
