The
Kelowna Art Gallery is pleased to present Transfer, an exhibition
of prints by University of British Columbia senior printmaking students.
The
University of British Columbia Okanagan’s Department of Creative Studies
is one of two departments in the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies
and consists of 17 faculty members in creative writing, theatre, and
visual arts. The Visual Arts program offers a balance of academic study
and studio work, immersing students in critical and contemporary art
education. Students acquire the foundation skills, techniques and theories
to work in two and three dimensions in a variety of media such as drawing,
painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, computer applications, and
video. Students work closely with professors and are given ample studio
space and time. Art history courses, visiting artists' presentations, and
participation in art exhibitions also form integral parts of the
curriculum.
The
Printmaking division, which offers courses in screenprinting, etching,
relief processes, stone and waterless lithography, are designed to promote
printmaking as a broad and versatile basis for research, and as an
essential instrument for the students’ engagement with the visual arts.
