Painting Workshop: Visual Storytelling: October 20 & 27
In conjunction with the Rick
Rivet exhibition the Kelowna Art Gallery is pleased to present a
two-week residency featuring Kelowna painter Lee Claremont.
Lee Claremont was born in Woodstock,
Ontario. She is of Mohawk/Irish ancestry and is a member of the Grand
River Iroquois Six Nations in Oshweken, Ontario. Lee Claremont received
her BFA from the University of British Columbia and is now a respected
teacher at the En’owkin Centre in Penticton. Traditional Mohawk
mythology and stories have influenced Lee Claremont’s paintings. She
thinks of herself as a visual storyteller, using paint, colour, patterns,
metaphors and symbols to tell her stories.
Lee Claremont will be painting in the
Scotiabank studio Tuesdays through Fridays, 10am to 5pm. Visitors are
welcome to drop by for a discussion.

We all have stories to tell, whether they
be conscious or unconscious, from a fond or bad memory, or from an
emotional or spiritual experience. One way we can tell our stories is
through visual images and art. In this two-day workshop artist Lee
Claremont will guide students as they paint their personal stories.
