PUBLIC TOURS

The Kelowna Art Gallery hosts a variety of tours for various exhibitions. Self Guided Tours are always welcome. All groups will receive a five minute introduction before their scheduled tour. To avoid conflict with other groups in the gallery, please call ahead to book your tour.

SCHOOL TOUR PROGRAM

The Kelowna Art Gallery offers a number of programs to district schools: Education Kits, Gallery tour Programs, Art in Action Student Exhibition, Young Architects Program and Teachers Club.

The Education Department of the Kelowna Art Gallery is pleased to offer our School Program. Each year we create programs for teachers to take part in throughout the year. Each program is designed to complement the British Columbia Ministry of Education's current Fine Art Curriculum and involves a gallery tour and a hands-on activity.

GALLERY TOURS: Students are encouraged to respond to the original works of art facilitated by trained tour leaders (Docents) who will provide information and encourage questions. This part is designed to promote critical thinking skills in the students.

HANDS-ON ACTIVITY: Students and teachers are directly involved in a hands-on activity related to the exhibition which has been designed to reinforce a specific aspect of the show, such as painting, drawing, photography, etc.

TEACHERS GUIDE: A comprehensive booklet, containing background information about the exhibition is sent out to teachers prior to their scheduled tour. This document contains related terminology and post-tour classroom activities.

COST: Please note: There will be a $3.00 per student charge for each gallery visit. This fee covers supplies, materials and staffing costs incurred in the School Tour Program. The Principals are aware of this user fee, therefore, please check your principal's discretionary funds to assist with financing your tour. Payment is made at the front desk of the gallery during the arrival of your class. A receipt will be issued at that time.

SUGGESTED BOOKING TIMES: Each tour lasts approximately 1 hour 30 minutes therefore we will custom schedule morning tours starting 9:15am, afternoon tours starting at 12:00pm.
